Questions People Ask Before They Call

FAQ

Common questions

How soon can I be seen?

Often the same or next day, depending on which clinician you need. We do not run a months-long waitlist.

How long will I be in therapy?

Some people come for six sessions and are done. Others stay a year. You are reassessing this with your therapist throughout, and you can stop whenever you like.

Does telehealth actually work?

For most concerns the research says it works about as well as being in the room. It is a poor fit for a few situations, and your therapist will tell you if yours is one of them.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. We are therapists, not prescribers. We work alongside your doctor or psychiatrist and can help you have that conversation.

What happens in the first session?

Mostly you talk and your therapist listens. They will ask what brought you in, what has already been tried, and what you would like to be different. You are not required to tell your whole history on day one.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, with the legal exceptions every therapist in Minnesota works under: risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, and court orders. Your therapist will explain these in the first session.

Can I switch therapists?

Yes, and it is not rude. Fit matters more than almost anything else. Call the office and we will arrange it quietly.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or go to your nearest emergency department. We are not a crisis service and cannot respond outside office hours.

You can usually be seen this week

Depending on availability we offer same-day or next-day appointments. There is no long waitlist and no referral required for most plans.
